COLLECTING ADDICTION - Josh Wang Solo Exhibition

Updated: 22 hours ago

Josh Wang’s new solo exhibition COLLECTING ADDICTION. This is not only a return to an art exhibition but also an evolutionary experiment in creative language and a deep depiction of the inner universe.

Over the years, he has regarded the cards, models, dolls and street culture symbols that have accompanied him growing up as carriers of visual memory and the source of his creations. He sees "collecting" as a way of constructing his own world, a systematic act of preservation, translation and re-creation. Under his pen, these collections are no longer just static objects, but an organic projection of memory, which is eventually transformed into characters, installations and narrative spaces, constructing an artistic language full of emotional warmth.

At the exhibition, we saw how Josh used soft-rubber characters, three-dimensional installations and visual design to transform those seemingly trivial but extremely sincere collecting experiences, and further translate them into a perceptible artistic vocabulary. He not only reassembles cultural fragments, but also filters and redefines daily life through his creations, honestly projecting his deep-seated emotions and obsessions onto characters and objects.

The Caterham 170, a British lightweight sports car with great design aesthetics and collection value, was exhibited on site. Echoing the "retro racing aesthetic" designed by Josh Wang for AKA Automotive Arts. The minimalist and pure lines of the car and the mechanical structure inspired by the spirit of the racetrack juxtapose the aesthetics of toys, memories and real machinery, allowing the audience to establish a cross-media aesthetic connection between the character world and real objects.

We have teamed up with CLA Fashion Platform and Taiwan's famous fashion designer Xue Zheng to incorporate the BLACK PEARLS characters into the trendy dolls using his own oriental clothing design language.
Jointly launch a cross-border creative project to extend the character vocabulary to more possibilities of contemporary expression. Through in-depth exploration of the relationship between character culture and fashion trends, we jointly create a unique curatorial experiment, transforming the character images in the BLACK PEARLS worldview into clothing design language, presenting a three-dimensional dialogue that integrates visual art, popular culture and lifestyle. This collaboration not only expands the boundaries of character creation, but also allows the audience to re-enter the artist's collection universe from the dual perspectives of "fashion" and "creativity."
